Joshua James - “To Be Alone With You” (Sufjan Stevens cover) (from “Seven Swans Reimagined”)
I love Joshua James AND this song, so it was a dream to hear him cover it for the new album, “Seven Swans Reimagined.” A variety of artists reimagined Sufjan Stevens’ album, “Seven Swans,” and it’s actually very rad. Get it. It’s for charity!

Bon Iver - “Come Talk To Me” (Peter Gabriel cover) (from “Flume / Come Talk To Me”)
In 2009, Peter Gabriel released a cover album called “Scratch My Back.” He covered artists such as Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Elbow, and Bon Iver, among others. In return, most (if not all) of those artists covered Peter on a release he called “I’ll Scratch Yours.”
Peter covered Bon Iver’s “Flume,” so the favor was returned when Bon Iver covered “Come Talk To Me.” I can’t help but love Justin Vernon’s take on “Come Talk To Me,” a song Peter wrote for his daughter when she was little. This is how covers should be done, ya’ll.
Who WOULDN’T want to cover Peter? He’s the fucking MAN!
Am I the only one who remembers this song?!?!?!?! Circa 2004? Back when Avril Lavigne was a slightly rebellious mainstream rock/pop star? And all of the music magazines and tabloids tried to say that Avril and Fefe had a Britney/Christina-esque rivalry going on? But then Avril and Fefe came out and said FU and that they were actually practically BFF and the tabloids all STFU?
Silversun Pickups - “Dream At Tempo 119” (from “Carnavas”)
Most people know the Silversun Pickups’ song, “Lazy Eye,” from exposure on some indie music radio stations as well as from the “Rock Band” and “Guitar Hero” games. “Lazy Eye” is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I would argue that “Carnavas” is one of the best albums of all time.
I thought I’d share a lesser known song from that album. There isn’t a single bad song on “Carnavas” and if you don’t already have it, YOU NEED IT. They had an album, “Pikul,” before they gained exposure for “Carnavas,” and have since released “Swoon.” All of their albums are thoroughly enjoyable but “Carnavas” can’t be beaten. GET IT. LOVE IT.
P.S. I’ve seen them in concert and they are so great. Their drummer KILLS IT.
Key tracks: Well Thought Out Twinkles, Lazy Eye, Dream At Tempo 119, Rusted Wheel
From PerezHilton.com Posted by jerkstore on Wednesday, 1/21/2009, 11:21 PM “In my opinion Tina Fey completely ruined SNL. The only reason she’s celebrated is because she’s a woman and an outspoken liberal. She has not a single funny bone in her body.”
Huzzah for the Truth Teller! Women in this country have been over-celebrated for too long. Just last night there was a story on my local news about a “missing girl,” and they must have dedicated seven or eight minutes to “where she was last seen” and “how she might have been abducted by a close family friend,” and I thought, “What is this, the News for Chicks?” Then there was some story about Hillary Clinton flying to some country because she’s secretary of state. Why do we keep talking about these dumdums? We are a society that constantly celebrates no one but women and it must stop! I want to hear what the men of the world have been up to. What fun new guns have they invented? What are they raping these days? What’s Michael Bay’s next film going to be?
When I first set out to ruin SNL, I didn’t think anyone would notice, but I persevered because - like you trying to do a nine-piece jigsaw puzzle - it was a labor of love.
I’m not one to toot my own horn, but I feel safe with you, jerkstore, so I’ll say it. Everything you ever hated on SNL was by me, and anything you ever liked was by someone else who did it against my will.
Sincerely, Tina Fey
P.S. You know who does have a funny bone in her body? Your mom every night for a dollar.
Manchester Orchestra - “Simple Math” (from “Simple Math”)
NEW MANCHESTER ORCHESTRAAAAAAA
I have the first two Manchester Orchestra albums and they are fantastic. This song sounds rather different than their former material, but it kicks some major ass and I have been listening to it on loop. The new album comes out May 10.
I have been aching to see them in concert for about four years and I’m finally going to be able to see them on May 4 in KC. An Horse is opening for them and I am SO EXCITED.
